Mary E. 'Tootie' Smith

Mary Elizabeth (Tootie) Smith, 97, formerly of 1454 South Avenue, Lewis Run, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at the residence of her daughter. 

Born March 19, 1917 in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Madeline (Kearney) Foster.
 
On August 22, 1940 in Olean, NY, she married Galen A. Smith, who passed away May 24, 2010.
 
Mrs. Smith had worked as a recepitionist and secretary for various doctor's offices in the late 30's and 40's. She had been employed by the United States Bureau of Census, doing monthly labor surveys. She had also worked at WESB as a hostess for the program entitled "What's Cooking" from 1961-1966.  From 1967 to 1971, she was a travel agent for Emery Travel Service and Trailway's Bus Line.
 
Mrs Smith attended Evans Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewis Run all of her life. She held a variety of positions to serve her church and the local district of Methodist Churches. Serving in her life's passion of mission outreach, she served on the United Methodist Conference Board of Missions as an ambassador to the Caribbean Islands visiting seven different islands.
 
Surviving are two daughters, Gail A. (Ron) Thompson and Shelley (Edward) Wright, both of Bradford; five grandchldren, Craig Thompson of Bradford, Betsy (Dr. Ted) Bryant of Marathon, NY, Earl (Amanda) Wright  of Bradford, Amanda (Steve) Troisi of Bradford and Andrew (Carmen) Wright of Lewis Run; nine great grandchildren; a sister Erla Frick of Bradford and a brother Howard Foster of Port Allegany and several beloved nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson Bradley J. Thompson who passed away October 20, 2006.
 
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main Street, and again on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 in the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church where services will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Larry Corner, pastor  and Rev. Keith Hillard, co-officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park.
 
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church or the McKean County SPCA.
