Richard W. Walker

Richard W. Walker, 91, of 65 Jefferson St. passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
 
Born December 4, 1922 in Bradford, he was a son of the late Fred and Lelia (Cassidy) Walker.
 
On November 10, 1961 in the first Presbyterian Church in Bradford, he married Bonnie (Nelson) Walker who survives him.
 
He was a 1940 graduate of Bradford High School.  On November 25, 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.  He was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945.
 
After his military service, he attended Edinboro State Teacher's College and received his degree in Secondary Education.
 
After graduating he became a teacher and head baskeball coach at New Bloomfield High School in Lincolnville, PA. He then returned to Bradford and worked for Dresser Manufacturing as a Process Engineer until his retirement in 1985.  
 
He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, The American Legion and The Elks Club.  
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Walker, of Santa Cruz, CA; a son, Donald  R. Walker, of York and four grandchildren. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Hulme and Maxine Morgan and a brother, Donald C. Walker, who was killed in Pilot Training School during World War II. 
 
At the request of the family there will be no visitation and funeral services will be private.  Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.  Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the McKean County SPCA, Box 113, Bradford, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
