Donald E. Kautz

Donald E. Kautz, 93, of 51 Rockland Ave., Bradford, and formerly of Bath, NY, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born July 10, 1920, in Bradford he was a son of the late Paul R. and Bertha (Scheiterle) Kautz.

On August 5, 1950 in Bradford he married Mildred I. (Potter) Kautz, who died on November 13, 1980.

Mr. Kautz was a 1938 graduate of Bradford High School. On July 23, 1942 he joined the Army Air Corp. and served during World War II in India and Burma. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, with 1 Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged March 21, 1946.

After returning home from the service he worked from 1946 to 1956 as a meat cutter at Loblaws and A&P Grocery Stores in Bradford. For the next 21 years he worked in Bath, NY, at the A&P Grocery Store and retired as meat manager.

He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bath and a member of the VFW in Bradford.

Surviving is one daughter, Suzanne I. (John) Smalt, of Victor, NY, one son, Donald (Susan) Kautz, of Houston, TX, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Thornton of Buffalo, NY and Mary Ann Kautz of Bradford, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Richard P. Kautz and Charles B. Kautz.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday, June 20, 2014, from 10:00 to 11:00am in the Grace Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Patrick Cox, Pastor officiating. Committal Services and Military Honors will be accorded in McKean Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
