Rita C. O'Connor

Rita C. O'Connor, 95, formerly of 25 Cole Ave, Riley Road Apts. and Chapel Ridge, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, peacefully, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born February 27, 1919 in Clarion she was a daughter of the late Frank and Pearl (George) Crate.

She was a 1937 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School. After high school she enlisted in the United States Army and served in Manilla. She worked for the Judge Advocate General, she was honorably discharged a Sergeant in 1945.  After the service she graduated from the Oil City Beauty School in 1947.

On May 3, 1947 in Bradford she married H. James  O'Connor, who died on February 18, 1990.

She was a member of St. Bernard Church, Bradford Senior Center, the Pine Acres Country Club and bowled in local leagues into her late 80's.

Rita owned and operated a beauty shop in Bradford for many years.

Surviving is one son, Michael J. O'Connor, of Webster NY, one sister, Gladys Crate, of New Bethlehem, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters including Alberta Roslinski and two brothers.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday July 22, 2014 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main St., Bradford, where a prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Mausoleum entombment will be held in St Bernard Mausoleum.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Bradford Senior Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
