Virginia G. Benedict

Virginia G. Benedict, 96, of 1941 Faulkner Rd. Olean, formerly of Bradford, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 in Olean General Hospital. Born September 21, 1918 in Tidioute, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Ila (Hoover) Carter. In 1936, she married Frank Benedict, who passed away August 1, 1982. She was a 1936 graduate of Bradford High School. She was a member of St. Bernard Church and the Catholic Women's Club. Before, during and after raising her family, she worked for The Valley Hunt Club, Glendorn, The Bradford High School Cafeteria and The Bradford Hospital, where she retired from the position of Dietary Supervisor. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with anyone in her family and was interested in ceramics, playing cards, sewing, embroidery, needlepoint and crocheting. She is survived by three daughters, Joanne (Ellsworth) Shade, of Anaheim, CA, Denise (David) Luca, of Olean, NY and Donna Mowery, of Owensboro, KY; a daughter in law, Patricia Benedict of Virginia and a son in law, Gary Schroeder of Lewis Run; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Schroeder and in infancy, Rosemary Benedict; a son, Frank Peter Benedict II; a granddaughter, Tina Marie Schroeder; a great grandson, Nathaniel Shade; a sister, Margaret Thomas and three brothers, Jack Carter, Bill Carter and Ted Carter. Friends are invited to call from 5-8 PM, Monday, November 3, 2014 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St., where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014, followed by a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Committal services and burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
