Sophie A. Timbrook

Sophie A. Timbrook, 95, formerly of Bradford and WWII Veteran passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in Arlington, VA.

Born November 27, 1919 in Nashua, NH, she was a daughter of the late Andrew P. and Sophie (Sharkus) Augunas. 

On January 27, 1951 at St. Louis, MO she married Paul W. Timbrook, who passed away August 27, 2010. 

She was a graduate of Nashua, NH, High School and earned a degree in nursing from Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. 

In 1942, she enlisted as a nurse in the U.S. Army and spent 17 months at Iceland Base Command before deploying to the 168th Evacuation Hospital in northern France following the invasion of Normandy, where she earned a Bronze Star. 

After settling in Bradford, she continued to work in the nursing profession, eventually retiring from Olean General Hospital. 

She was an active member of St. Bernard Church.  She was also an avid quilter and enjoyed spending time in her garden. 

She is survived by three children, Patricia (Scott) Timbrook-McMullan, of Annandale, VA,  

Jan (David) Sennett, of Pickerington, OH and Timothy (Barb) Timbrook, of Alfred Station, NY; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren;  a sister, Wanda Augunas of Nashua, NH; one niece and one nephew. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Mark Timbrook, who passed away August 21, 1979; a granddaughter, Emily Timbrook in 2009 and her sister, Ann in 1985. 

Friends are invited to call from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Ave., where a prayer service will be held at 10:30 AM, followed by an 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, Pastor, as celebrant.  Committal services and burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery with full military honors accorded.  Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition or The American Cancer Society.
