Bruce J. Therminy

Bruce J. Therminy, 80, of 25 Lawrence Ave. Bradford, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born August 13, 1936, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Leo and Grace (Bernard) Therminy. He was a 1954 graduate of Bradford High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1954 until he was honorably discharged in 1958.

On July 9, 1971, in Bradford, he married Carol L. (Frutiger) Therminy who survives.

Bruce worked as General Manager at Star Garage and Star Lanes Bowling Alley, he retired in 1992 after over 30 years of service.

Bruce started bowling as a teenager. As a young man he bowled with the Zippo Whiz Kids a bowling team sponsored by Zippo that traveled to tournaments all over the East Coast. In 1962 he bowled in the National Tournament and came in 8th in the whole country. Bowling in the Adult Bowling League he won many local and regional tournaments. Later in his life he bowled in the Senior Bowling Tournament and won the Pennsylvania State Bowling Tournament as well as many local and regional tournaments.

In the late 1960's he along with Betty Dougherty started the Bradford Junior Bowling League Association, where he served as President. Under his guide he brought the Pennsylvania Junior Bowling Tournament to Bradford twice.

He was a life member and past President of the Bradford Men's Bowling Association as well as the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association, where he was an advisor to the PSBA Yearbook. He served as Director for the American Bowling Congress. In 1991 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Bowling Hall of Fame. In 2010 the Bradford Junior Bowling Association established a Sportsmanship Award in honor of him and his dedication to Junior bowling.

Surviving in addition to his wife Carol of 45 years, are two sons, Mark (Michelle) Therminy, of Bradford, and Tim (Laurie) Roslinski, of Raleigh NC, one daughter, Laurie (Pat) Garrigan, of Emporium, six grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Harris, Sean Roslinski, Tasha Garrigan, Tia Garrigan, Erin Garrigan, Shea Garrigan, one brother in law Ronald Quinn and two nephews Scott and Kevin Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara J. Quinn.

Family will be receiving friends on Monday October 24, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., at 7:00pm funeral and committal services will be held with Pastor  B.J. Simms, of the Free Christian Evangelical Church of Smethport. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of Bruce's Passing. What a wonderful man he was. He spent many hours teaching me to bowl, and kept his cool the complete time even though I was a slow difficult student. He will certainly be missed.
