Ilene Jewel Payne

Ilene Jewel Payne, 85, of 780 Bolivar Drive, Bradford, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday November 4, 2016, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease.

Born December 23, 1930, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Louella M. (Benjamin) Stidd. She attended Bradford High School.

On May 14, 1948 in the Church of Ascension, she married Donald I. Payne who survives.

Ilene formerly worked at Clarks Department Store and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting blankets, babysitting, camping, cooking, and making her famous buckeyes. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends.

She was a former member of the Bolivar Drive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, attended Sunday School and helped with the nursery and Vacation Bible School. She more recently attended the First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband Don of 68 years, is one daughter, Ann (Alex) Nuzzo, of Bradford, and one son, Jerry (Ann) Payne of Bradford, one brother, Thomas Stidd, of OH,  six grandchildren, Jason Freer, Lindsey Steinberg, Cody Nuzzo, Kyle Payne, Lexandria Pascarella, Tyler Nuzzo, two great grandchildren, Hailey Payne and Benjamin Steinberg, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Donna Freer and Deborah Payne, one son, Thomas Payne, four brothers, William, Robert, Daniel and James Stidd, five sisters, Ida Chirenza, Ila Buckley, Ina Black, Inez Boon and Irene Tassone.

At the family's request there will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the convenience of family. Burial will be in Bridgeview Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

In lieu of flowers, Ilene asks you extend an act of kindness to another person, or a memorial to the Hospice program at Community Nurses.

Don and family, We're so sorry for your loss. Aunt Squirt will be greatly missed! We loved her baked goods and how she just made you eat! She was a sweetheat! Her buckeyes were the best! Take comfort in the scripture at John 5:28, 29 were our Lord Jesus says that he will resurrect all those in the memorial tombs. And as Jesus stated to Martha at the 11th chapter of John that his friend Lazarus was only sleeping and he brought him back to life as he will, very soon, Aunt Squirt!
