David E. Weart

David E. Weart, 62, of 39 East Songbird Road, Bradford, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016, at his residence, in the company of his loving wife.

Born April 14, 1954, in Cuba, NY, he was a son of the late Craig C. Weart,and Pauline (Wallace) Weart-Lucas who survives.

On September 13, 1975, in Olean NY, he married Pamela L. (Wiedemann) Weart who survives.

Dave was a 1972 graduate of Friendship Central High School, and while in high school, he received a certification in welding from the Andrews F. Haines Vocational School, in Belmont, NY.

In August of 1972, he enlisted in the United States Navy,served aboard the USS Columbus and the USS Shenandoah. He was a Hull Technician, 2nd class and was honorably discharged in October of 1976. In August of 1983, David enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed in Miami, FL, on board the USCG Dauntless and later Ketchikan, AK. He retired as 1st Class Petty Officer in damage control and was honorably discharged in 1992.

He returned home from the military and worked at Quaker State and Pennzoil as a welder. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford where he did his under graduate work and received his teaching certificate from the State of New York in Welding and Heavy Equipment Instruction. Prior to his retirement he had been an instructor at BOCES Vocational School.

Dave attended Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and member of the American Legion Post 1168, where he volunteered for the pancake breakfast.

In the late 70's he raced stock cars at Bradford Speedway, in Rew. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, and gathering sap to make maple syrup. His favorite time was spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, Pauline (Roy) Lucas of  Wellsville, and his wife Pamela of 41 years he is survived a son, Adam (Melissa) Weart, of Bradford, one daughter, Katie (Kiro) Sekulovski, of Olean, one daughter in law Katie (Carl) Linaman of Panama NY, 8 grandchildren, Savannah Weart, Luka Sekulovski, Gavin Weart, Vivian Sekulovski, Caleb D. Weart, Carter Linaman, Parker Rose Linaman and Paxton Linaman, a sister, Denise (Dick) DeGroat, of Rochester, NY, a brother, Dick (Alfie) Weart, of Friendship, 3 sister-in-laws, Colleen (Steve) Jurenko, of Olean, Carol Wiedemann, of Allegany and Debbie Wiedemann of Eldred, 1 brother-in-law, Terry (Chrissy) Wiedemann of Olean, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, two son's Jacob Weart who died October 27, 1991 and Zachary Weart who died July 21, 2009.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main Street, Bradford, and again on Wednesday December 7, 2016, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at the American Legion Post 1168, 29 Depot St. in Friendship. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Barb Moore, pastor of the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, and Chaplain Mark Voorheis, of the American Legion, co-officiating. Committal services and full Military Honors will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, NY.
