Judith Oliver Rose, 82, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother of Derrick City, died on April 2, 2017, at her residence, with her husband and daughters by her side.
Born in Bradford on June 2, 1934, she was the daughter of Carl M. Oliver and Marjorie Fitzgerald Oliver.
Judy graduated from Bradford High School in 1952 and in May of 1954 from Cazenovia College.
She was married to Ralph A. Rose on August 28, 1954, St. Francis Church.
She resided in Fort Campbell KY, and Clarksville TN, with her husband while he served in the United States Army 101st Air Borne Division. They lived their early married life in Bradford and raised their children on Tinadell Road and later the couple resided in the family homestead in Derrick City. She and her husband owned and operated Wright Monumental Works Inc., Roseart Company, and Discovery Antiques.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren had affectionately nick-named her “Go-Go” and to her children she was always Mother.
Always a constant, loving, and supportive parent and grandmother, a true source of strength and inspiration to her entire family. She was deeply loved.
Judy lived and loved life and cherished every day as a blessing. She loved her large family, and friends dearly. She was gentle and kind to everyone. She always had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. You always knew she was happy to see you and would miss you when you left her.
She was a good cook, made delicious ginger cookies and mocha cakes.
She loved to travel and had many great adventures to many wonderful places over the years. For many years, the winter months were spent skiing with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed Summer months with her family on Chautauqua lake and Allegheny State Park sometimes fishing or kayaking while Ralph read and was close by onshore. She also loved gardening and found joy in watching the birds.
She had many hobbies, enjoyed a favorite past time of knitting alone or with her group of knitting friends. Treasured are all the knitting gifts and especially the many Christmas stockings she made for her family.
She was very active and enjoyed walks, yoga and spent time sharing and laughing with her lunch group and YMCA lady friends.
Mrs. Rose was a member of St. Francis and St. Bernard’s Church where her good friend, Father Leo Gallina served the parish for many years. Presently, Father Ray Gramata has endeared himself to Judy and the Rose Family. She did volunteer work in the cafeteria of St. Bernard School and Chapel Ridge. She also enjoyed attending special services at the Mennonite church as a special friend.
