Joseph E. Null, Sr.

Joseph  E. Null, Sr., 92, of 47 Mountain Top Road in Gifford, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Smethport, .

Born in Deep Valley on June 3, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph L and Laura (DeBolt) Null.

On February 8, 1943 in Kane, he married Dorothy M. (Reigel) Null, who survives.  

He attended schools in Bradford and high school in Kane.  In October of 1943 he was enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre until he was honorably discharged in December of 1946.   

He attended Gifford United Methodist Church, Cyclone Free Methodist Church and the Lafayette Evangelical Church. 

After his military service, he worked for the Tidewater Oil Company and the Ike Wooster Oil Company as a tool dresser.  He retired from Quaker State Corporation after many years as a Filter House Operator. 

He was a member of the Keating Township Sportsmen's Club, The Fraternal Order of Police in Ridgway and the American Legion Post # 138 in Smethport. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Christine (Nicholas) Arena, of Phoenix, AZ,Diane Null, of Bradford and Barbara (Raymond) Beverage, of South Carolina; a son,Joseph (Laura) Null, Jr., of Cyclone; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Johnson of Bradford and Florence Ewart of Newark, DE and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children; one grandson, Daniel Mark Beverage; one great granddaughter, Isabelle Null; three sisters, Hazel Coder, Helen Hamilton and Grace Flick and two brothers, LaVerne Null and Dewayne Null.

Friends are invited to call from 7-9 PM, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Avenue and again from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017   in the Lafayette Evangelical Church, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM with Rev. Robert Baldwin, Pastor, officiating.  Committal services and burial will follow in Bridgeview Cemetery in Mt. Jewett with full military honors accorded by members of the Smethport American Legion, Post #138. 

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Lafayette Evangelical Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.

I was saddened to hear of Joes passing. I so enjoyed the years I knew him when I was working at the Gifford Post Office. He used to stay awhile and chat when he came in for his mail and he always left me with a smile on my face. He will be missed.
