Robert Charles Mathys

Robert Charles "Bob" Mathys, 64, of Clovis, NM died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 2, 2017 at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton, with Pastor Furgus Tunnell officiating. Honorary pallbearers include; Leonard Coiner, Bill Baldridge, Mark Harper, Mike King, and Mike Cochie. Military Honors will be presented by Cannon AFB Honor Guard. Cremation has taken place.

Robert Charles Mathys was born August 21, 1953 in Kane, PA. He was the son of the late John R. Mathys and Patricia Benson Mathys. Robert was raised in Bradford, PA and attended Bradford schools. He played football in high school and graduated from BAHS in 1971. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971. He made the military his career and was honorably discharged. He had the opportunity during his military service to travel and live in many cities in America and around the the world and always stated that when he retired, it would be in New Mexico, as he fell in love with the landscape and people while stationed in Alamogordo. While in retirement he enjoyed playing pool. Robert was a long time active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, climbing up the chairs and eventually serving as state president.

Survivors include: his three children; Misty Hidalgo of Smethport, PA, Kary Whelpley of Japan and John Mathys of Clovis, New Mexico, three brothers; Andy Mathys of Spring Hill, Florida, John Mathys of East Otto, NY and Steven (Sue) Mathys of Sterling Heights, MI, four sisters; Patricia Fultz of Camp Lejeune, NC, Leasa (Dennis) Maley of Limestone, NY, Beth (Randy) Race of Bradford, PA and Erin (Chris) Collins of Oswego, NY, his fiance, Paula O'Brien, and her children; Jessica Thomas, Samantha Bennett, Amber Rose Thomas, six grandchildren; Paige Bennett, Ryleigh Bennett, Jocelyn Wolf, Jesse Hidalgo, Skyler Hidalgo, and Tatum Hidalgo, one great-grandson; Xyler Hidalgo, several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Wendy Ward.
