Betty B. Comes

Betty B. Comes, 93, of 40 Club View Drive, Bradford, passed away Sunday December 31, 2017 at the Pavilion @BRMC.

Born January 18, 1924 in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of the late Carl S. and Hilma (Johnson) Benson.

She was a 1942 graduate of Port Allegany High School.

On October 10, 1945 in Port Allegany, she married, Gordon L. Comes who died March 28, 1994.

Betty was an employee of McKean County for 32 years. She was Assistant Recorder of Deeds under Mr. Ralph Caverly for 16 years and was elected to the Office of McKean County Recorder of Deeds in 1980 and served four terms. She retired in 1996. After her retirement she served as Jury Commissioner until the office was abolished.

Very active in politics her whole life Betty served all the political positions she held locally and at the state level with honesty and professionalism. She served as Vice Chairwoman of the Republican Party of McKean County, President of the Bradford Council of Republican Women, Past President of the Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women, and Past President of the Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association.

Betty was member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Bradford and had served as Financial Secretary, on Church Council and was a Sunday School Teacher.

She served on the Board of Directors and Past President of the McKean County Unit of the American Cancer Society, the Lutheran Home at Kane and the YWCA of Bradford.

Surviving is one son, Richard B. Comes, of Chapel Hill TN, four sisters, Marion Johnson of Bradford, Joyce Wylie of Dearborn Heights, MI, Jennie Fulmer of Dallas TX, and Helen Piegza of Franklin Lakes NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Linda L. Comes who died February 24, 2014, and one sister Emma Elaine Benson.

Friends will be received on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Emanual Lutheran Church, at 11:00am funeral services will be held with the Rev. Thomas Pierotti, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Smethport. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
