Ruth C. Hahn

Ruth C. Hahn, 99, formerly of 288 Bolivar Drive, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born October 22, 1921, in Alto, MI, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Bessie (Greene) Clarke.

At the age of 14 Ruth left her home on the farm to further her education in Grand Rapids, MI. At 19 she left Michigan and went to work for the War Department in the Pentagon, Washington, DC.

While in DC she met William B. Hahn, whom she married on July 1, 1943, at the Calvary Baptist Church in DC. After WWII, Ruth and Bill moved to Bradford where they raised their family.

Ruth was employed at Corning Glass for 24 years. After retirement she volunteered at Bradford Regional Medical Center for 25 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Ruth loved to walk. She walked all over town. People would stop and ask if she wanted a ride, or if she wanted to rest on their front porch. Her answer was always, “no thank you, I enjoy walking”. She believed walking kept her healthy. She liked to pick blueberries and apples that grew in her back yard. She filled her freezer with homemade apple and blueberry pies which she was happy to share with everyone, whether you were family or hired help.

Family was the center of Ruth's life. She enjoyed visits, phone calls and cards.  When asked how she was doing, she would inevitably say “Pretty good for an old lady.”

Surviving are three daughters, Peggy (late Ted) Leonard, of Bradford, Cynthia (Mark) Zelenka, of Bowie MD, Linda Rumrell, of Lakeland, FL, one son, Steve (Diane) Hahn, of Nebo, NC, nine grandchildren, Courtney Rumrell Bridges, Amy-  Jo Rumrell, Geoffrey Zelenka, William Zelenka, Christian Zelenka, Michael McGee, Brian McGee, Allie Hahn and Charlie Hahn, 12 great grandchildren, and one brother Carl Clarke, of Alma, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill of 54 years, two sisters, and one brother.

Friends will be received on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the First Baptist Church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Leon Canfield, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Committal services and burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions, if desired may be made to, The Bradford Ecumenical Home, 100 St. Francis Dr., Bradford PA 16701, First Baptist Church, 71 Congress St, Bradford PA  16701, or the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford PA 16701.
