Lawrence E. "Murph" Murphy, 95, of Nichols Run, Limestone, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Bradford Manor.
Born March 6, 1926, in Port Allegany, he was a son of the late John and Goldie (Mack) Murphy.
On January 19, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, He served in the South Pacific and Normandy. In 1947 he served aboard a SubTender, Nereus, as a GyroTechnician which escorted a scientific expedition under the Artic ice, called Operation Blue Nose. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1947.
On June 2, 1951, in Jamestown NY he married E. Dorothy (Larson) Murphy who died April 29, 2012.
Murph was employed as a truck driver for Bethlehem Steel for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion in Limestone, Hamburg and Bradford, the VFW in Hamburg, and the Moose Lodge of Bradford and the Limestone Community Club. He was well known in the area for his wine making skills and his generosity in sharing his craft with everyone.
Surviving are two daughters, Colleen (Rick) Wallin, of Limestone, NY, and Cathleen (Larry D) Bishop, of Bradford, two grandchildren, Carl "Duke" Wallin, Dawn Bishop, three great grandchildren, Dakota and Alissa Harlan, and Carleen Glassmire, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, John and Milton Murphy, and one sister Maxine Cramer.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial, on Sunday August 8, 2021,
from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Limestone American Legion.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department or the Limestone American Legion.
