Lawrence M. Woods, 90, of Syracuse, NY, formerly of 3 West End Drive, Bradford, passed away Thursday July 7, 2022, at his residence.
Born May 29,1 932, in Oswego, NY, he was a son of the late John J. and Mary P. (Salvadore) Woods. He was adopted by Francis and Katherine O’Connell.
Larry graduated from St. Anthony's High School in 1949, and he attended St. Michael's College in Toronto before entering the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged on October 20, 1954.
On May 23, 1953, in St. Anthony's Church in Syracuse, he married Mary Lou (Harrington) Woods, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2008.
Larry was employed at Kendall Refining Company and Witco Corporation for 26 years. He retired in 1994 as the Sales Manager at Witco.
He was a member of the St. Bernard Church, where he sang in the choir and served as an alter server for daily masses and funerals. He was a board member and past president of the Bradford Exchange Club; a member of the American Legion, a Board Member and volunteer of the Friendship Table, the Salvation Army, and was a frequent volunteer at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Larry enjoyed spending time with family and his numerous friends, reading and attending daily Mass.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Beth (Robert) Kirtz, of Ischua, NY, Geralyn M. (Joseph) Saya, of Syracuse, NY, two sons, Steven G. (Melanie) Woods, of Cortland NY, and David G. (Suzanne) Woods, of Danielsville, 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy, Mark, Desiree, Alexander, Matthew, Austin, Taran, Jared and Mari, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Lou of 55 years, three brothers and one sister.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 33 South Avenue. Friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10:00 am in St. Bernard Church with Fr. Jim Gutting, as Celebrant. Interment at St. Bernard Cemetery.
Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the Friendship Table or the St. Bernard Church Building Fund.
