Mary Jean Sprague

Mary Jean Sprague, 95, formerly of 632 West Washington Street, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Bradford Manor.

Born August 8, 1926, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Jesse E. and Anna E. (Neiger) Sprague. She was a graduate of Bradford High School.

Mary lived in Washington DC, working for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in the 1940’s. After returning to Bradford, she worked as a billing clerk for Kendall Refining Company for 39 years. 

She was a member of West Branch United Methodist Church, and the Quarter Century Club of Kendall Refining.

Mary Jean was an avid painter; her paintings adorn the walls of many of her family and friends. She loved her pets throughout the years she had many beloved dogs and cats. She kept track of the birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions in the lives of her family and friends. Sending letters and cards gave her great joy. In her retirement she spent much of her time working out and swimming at the YMCA where she met many wonderful friends. Baking raisin filled cookies was a specialty of hers, receiving them from her was always a wonderful treat.

Surviving is one sister, Geraldine Aszbach, of Ruckersville VA, one sister-in-law Claudia Sprague, of Bradford, and several nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Carolyn Jarrett, four brothers Charles, Walter, James, and Howard Sprague.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm in the West Branch United Methodist Church, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Fred Zickafoose, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the West Branch United Methodist Church.
