John A Mascioni, Jr.

John Alfred Mascioni, Jr., 59, of Bolivar Drive, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Olean General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 22, 1965, in Olean, NY, he was a son of Gail Liane (Tice) Dunkle, of Bradford and John A. Mascioni, Sr., of Limestone.

He was a 1983 graduate of Bradford Area High School.

After high school he apprenticed at McCourt Label which led to a 20-year career there. He later worked in the Electronics Department at Walmart, until his health failed, and he was unable to be employed. John courageously battled significant health issues for years and was the recipient of a heart transplant.  Over the course of his treatment, he became more than a patient to many of his providers - he also became a friend.

He formerly volunteered at the Bradford Regional Medical Center and at the SPCA where he also served on the board. He loved tinkering with electronics and computers.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Christine (Bill) Gibble of Bradford; Jodie Auteri of Frederick MD; and Lisa Dunkle of Roulette; two nieces:  Megan Vasquez; Mackenzie Lem; and several paternal aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his cherished and beloved dog Hunter, his maternal and paternal grandparents, one aunt and one uncle.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the American Heart Association of Western PA, 444 Liberty Avenue, #1300, Pittsburgh PA 15222, or the SPCA P.O. Box 113, Bradford, PA 16701.

All Condolences -

My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. I met John years ago at Sylvia''s store. We became friends and hung out a lot. John would hang out at my house until I got home from work at the hospital! John did a lot of nice things for me as well as Sylvia! I attended John''s high school graduation, and was proud of that accomplishment! John was a good soul and he will be missed!

Dear Gail ,your family and John''s friend''s. My thought''s and condolences go out to you all of you??. Gail, you and my Mother Sally McCracken went to High School together and John and I did also. As for you John I wish we could have seen each other one more time more recently, listen to music, tell jokes and shoot the Bull. I''m glad we reconnected over the year''s by Telephone and text messaging. When I saw your Obituary I preferred to remember you for the stupid stuff and the good times we had back in the Early 1980''s with laughter and not tear''s. I believe that''s the way you wanted me to remember you by. You were a good man from what I see what other''s are posting about you here and you were a Great Friend when we were in High school. The last time we saw each other was 1986. I''m sure you are up in Heaven now, reunited and playing fetch with Hunter. Rest In Peace Johnathan as I sometimes called you back then. You will be missed by many back in the Early 1980''s and Now??.

My sympathies to John’s family and friends. We all got to know him fondly here at the hospital, truly an amazing man. May John rest peacefully now. He will be missed.

In every life, you meet someone who is special . A person who can make you smile, laugh, and cry in the same conversation. For me, that person was John Mascioni. One of the smartest people I have ever known, I cherished our friendship and our conversations. I will never, ever forget the times we had together, and I look forward to seeing you and Hunter again someday. Rest well my friend and thank you for allowing me the privilage of being your doctor, but more importantly your friend.
