Charles W. Stewart, 91, of Rt. 59 Lewis Run, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born April 3, 1933, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Harry and Leona (Jacobs) Stewart. He attended Bradford High School.
On February 15, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged Corporal on February 14, 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the U.N. Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Ribbon.
On June 8, 1957, in St. Joseph Church in Mt Alton, he married Zoranne B. (Hervatin) Stewart, who preceded him in death on August 22, 2020.
Chuck was employed at Owens-Illinois (Georgia Pacific) retiring after 42 years of service.
He was a former member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church.
In 1958, he completed the construction of his home in Lafayette Township, the home where he raised his family and retired. He was an incredible carpenter, having provided many, family and friends with fine pieces of furniture to cherish. Chuck could fix anything that needed repaired or repurposed. One of his many proud accomplishments was the restoration of his 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. He will be missed by many including his constant companion Pookie. Chuck’s sweet tooth was well known among his family. He could often be found with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Surviving is one daughter, Francine M. Stewart, of Bradford, two granddaughters, Stephanie Nicole (Bryan Scrivo) Behan of Bradford and Elizabeth Kathleen (Tylor) Clark, of Lewis Run.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Zoranne, of 63 years, one daughter Kathleen Frances Behan who died May 30, 2003, three sisters, Bertha Phillips, Lillian Munday, and Barb Courteau, and one brother Harry Stewart.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 7 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 372 East Main Street, Bradford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Francis Church with the Rev. Edward Walk, and Father Stephen Mimnaugh, OFM, as celebrants, followed by Military Honor's by members of the United States Marine Corp. and the Honor Guard from the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park.
