Velma A. Bridge

Velma A. Bridge, 93, formerly of 2174 West Washington St. Bradford, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home. 

Born May 19, 1931, in Bradford a daughter of the late Stillman S. and Freda Z. (Knight) Lewis.

Velma was a 1949 graduate of Bradford High School.

On September 30, 1950, in Allegany NY, she married LeRoy L. "Willy" Bridge who preceded her in death on July 14, 2002.

Velma worked as a bookkeeper for Bridge and Sons Builders, the Asbury Methodist Church, Zippo Manufacturing, Bradford Pharmacy and at Bradford Area High School in the AV department.

She was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church and the Bradford Area High School boosters club. 

Velma enjoyed bowling and competed in the Lilac Bowling Tournament in Rochester, NY, for many years. She enjoyed ceramics, reading, doing cross words and puzzles.

Surviving are two daughters, Lynn (Mick) McMillan of Bradford, Pamela Bridge of Honey Brook, three sons, Todd H. (Sharon) Bridge of Bradford, Thad W. (Kathleen) Bridge of Bradford, and Timothy P. (Sharon Black) Bridge of Lewis Run,, 11 grandchildren, Chad Bridge, Todd Bridge, Jason Bridge, Jessica Cannon, Joshua Bridge, Justin Bridge, Rhys Rector, Rhiannon Rector, Seth McMillan, Casey Mesler, 11 great-grandchildren, Blayke Bridge, Brenden Bridge, Delaney Bridge, Jonah Bridge, Jack Cannon, Max Cannon, Elijah Lowery, Brayden Mesler, Ryan Mesler, Aven McMillan, and Asher McMillan,  one brother William  Lewis, of  OH, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willy, one grandson, Courtney "Cork" Bridge, one sister, Betty Dennis, and four brothers, Stillman Knight Lewis, Ray Lewis, Ted Lewis, and Richard Lewis.

Family will receive friends on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 33 South Avenue, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jay Tennies Pastor of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Care for Children, P.O. Box 616, Bradford, PA 16701, or a charity of donor's choice.
