Russell V. Combs, Sr.
Russell Vincent Combs, Sr., 73, of Wexford, formerly of Limestone, NY, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, at AHN Wexford Hospital in Wexford.
Born November 11, 1951, in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Zola and Margaret (Lincoln) Combs.
Russ was a 1969 graduate of Limestone High School and later he attended Dayton Bible College and the University of Dayton.
On July 16,1988, in Allegany, NY he married Renee L. (Scacchi) Combs.
Russ was a committed husband and father and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. His faith motivated him toward excellence in everything that he did.
Russ was passionate about assisting small businesses and spent decades counselling countless business owners for many agencies across the country. Most recently, Russ was the Borough Manager for West Homestead. Russ also worked several years for the Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau assisting runaway and homeless youth.
Most recently, he attended Church at the Heights in Gibsonia, but Russ and Renee attended various churches as they resided in several cities around the country.
Russ is survived by his wife, Renee, of nearly 37 years. Also, their sons Russell V. Combs, Jr. (Rachel), of Charlottesville, VA, Shawn C. Combs (Tina) of Fort Smith, AR, and Jason L. Combs of Lapeer MI. He is also survived by one brother, Larry (Diana) Combs, of Limestone, NY, one sister-in-law, Margaret Combs of Stonewood, NC, five grandchildren, Merik Combs, Elaina Combs, Rebekah Combs, Morgan Daniels, and Hannah Smith Combs, two great grandchildren Montagne Suffel and Marina Daniels and several nieces and nephews.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Cassandra Combs Eick, two sisters, Pastor Barbara J. Chadwick, and infant Rosetta Combs, and one brother, Leland Combs.
Family will receive friends on May 19, 2025, from 11 AM to 1:00 PM at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., followed by funeral services 1:00 PM with Dr. Ralph Vogel, Senior Pastor of Church at the Heights, in Gibsonia, officiating. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.

I made the mistake of thinking a beautiful soul like Russ would live forever. As classmates in Limestone and later as dear friends, I can truthfully say that I have never met a finer human being. I hope he knew how much his friendship meant to me. He always went out of his way to keep in touch with every classmate and a large part of the heart of the LHS class of 1969 is now gone. My husband worked with Russell when we returned to Dayton, Ohio after he got out of the Navy. Are families became friends and do fun things together until they moved.
