Mary Lou Ross

Mary Lou Ross, 97, of Lewis Run, peacefully passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Bradford Regional Medical Center. She had been a resident at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born on March 28, 1928, in Gifford, PA, she was the daughter of the late David A. and Ethelyn Leola (Newton) Pytcher. 

On October 16, 1948, she married Michael A. Ross, in Our Mother of Perpetual Help rectory in Custer City. They were married for 73 years.

Mary Lou graduated from Bradford High School with the Class of 1946, where she excelled in the choir. She was a 1948 graduate of the Bryan & Stratton Business Institute. 

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from St. Bonaventure University in 1975. Later she earned her Master of Education degree from St. Bonaventure.

Mary Lou was employed by the Producers Bank for several years. She was later employed as a teacher’s aide and an elementary school teacher in the Bradford Area School District. She taught at M. J. Ryan, Custer City, School Street and George G. Blaisdell schools. She retired from Bradford Area School District after 49 years of service.

She was a member of Evans Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewis Run, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Bible study group, singing in the Choir, and the fellowship of the church members.

Mary Lou loved her family, being at home, and her dog, Tesha. In her later years, she enjoyed telephone calls from her grandchildren and her Bible study group. She volunteered as an election official in Lewis Run for several years.

Surviving are three sons: Peter J. (Louise) Ross, DMD, of Lancaster, David A. (Diane) Ross of Elma NY; and Timothy A. (Joanne) Ross of Ocala, Fl. Mary Lou loved her eight grandchildren: Abbey C. Ross, Katherine R. Dominick; Michelle R. Wendlinger, Esq., Barbara R. Bergan, Patricia L. Ross; Ryan D. Mahon, Katherine R. Maldonado, and Timothy J. Ross, II, Esq. twelve great-grandchildren, Madison Dominick, Natalie Dominick, Julia, Dominick; Eleanor Wendlinger, Caroline Wendlinger, Thomas Wendlinger; Benjamin Bergan, Colin Bergan; Luca Maldonado, Julian Maldonado, Sydney Mahon, and Avery Mahon. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Irene Pytcher, of Ithaca, NY., and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Michael A. Ross; her parents, David and Ethelyn Pytcher; two sisters Jean Pinci and Leola Mae Chapman; and two brothers, Rev. Richard E. Pytcher and David Pytcher.

Family will receive friends Friday December 5, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Avenue, Bradford, and Saturday from 10 am to 11 am at Evans Memorial United Methodist Church Lewis Run, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jay Tennies, Pastor, officiating. Committal service and burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
