Dorothy D. Gould

Dorothy D. Gould, 89, of 39 Sullivan Road Bradford, passed away, Monday, June 9, 2014, at The Pavilion at BRMC surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Born February 6, 1925, in Summerville, she was a daughter of the late Paul J. and Myrtle (Powell) Doughman.

On June 15, 1945 she married Alfred E. Ekas, who died June 17, 1974. Then on August 9, 1991 at the First Baptist Church, she married Charles J. Gould, who survives.

Mrs. Gould was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1942 and attended Bradford Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. She studied in the Gerontology Program at the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford Campus from 1981 to 1983.

She devoted her career in Nursing employment at Bradford Hospital for 43 years, where she served as Head Nurse and Instructor of clinical bedside nursing from 1946-1956; Assistant Director of Nursing Service from 1956-1966; and a Director of Nursing Service from 1966-1974.

Upon obtaining licenser as a Nursing Home Administrator in 1974, she was appointed Assistant Vice-President at Bradford Hospital and Bradford Nursing Pavilion, a hospital based skilled nursing facility adjacent to the hospital, a position she held from 1974 until her retirement in 1987.

Additionally, Mrs. Gould participated in state and community activities, including President of Bradford Hospital Professional Nurse Organization, and President of District #8 Pennsylvania Nurse Association.

Mrs. Gould was recognized in 1981 as an Outstanding Woman of the Year by the YWCA.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as Moderator, and Chairperson of the local American Baptist Women. She also was Past President of the Current Events Club.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Ann (Ekas) Longo and her husband Victor of Bradford, a sister Shirley Mong of Greenville, PA, a stepson, Jeffrey C. (Stacy) Gould of Bradford, a stepdaughter Darcy (Bill Burlingame) Dwaileebe of Olean, 1 grandson Steven (Melissa) Longo of Bradford, 2 granddaughters, Becky (Jay) McLaughlin and Mary Beth (Eric)Garvin, 3 great grandchildren, Sophia Garvin, Maxwell Garvin and Kara Longo, eight step grandchildren, Dale J. Bell, Josh Dwaileebe, Jeremy Dwaileebe, Dustin Gould, Jeffrey Gould, JaLiesa Gould, Makayla Gould and Jesse Gould, a step great granddaughter, Oasis Dwaileebe, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and a stepdaughter, Debra Bell Howard in 2007.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main Street, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday with Pastor Jeremy Childs and retired Pastor Leon Canfield co-officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
