To the Mathys family I give my condolences .I have known this family for 42 yrs and have a special relationship with them as we lived in the same neighborhood. Mr. Mathys was a stand up guy. He raised 8 children ,he was a great father and a great man .I remember him as a man that never stopped doing anything. He did a lot for our community and supported our local sports teams . On a personal note I could tell you where he would be in the bleachers during a owls football game because I sat, I played and I watched with him over time. Mr. Mathys was an inspiration to me as he took me to my first track which happened to be a PIAA state track meet. That inspired me took take up the sport which I love then and now as I passed it on to my daughter. He watched me play and compete during my High School years and would go out of his way to tell me that I did a good job. He was also considerate to me when it came to visiting his son Steve as he always included me to go visit him because he knew how I felt about missing him. RIP Mr. M i'm sure you will be having a friendly game of horseshoes with my father :)

John was a wonderful man, I met him through horseshoes, having kept score for him when I first started. He gave me a few tips and encouraged me. He was not only a wonderful man, a great horseshoe pitcher but was also kind and very considerate. I know you will miss him greatly along with his many friends on and off the courts. May you find strength knowing that he has touched many and will remain in our memories too. Jean Olsen Western PA Horseshoe Association Sec.? Treas./ Statistician
