Fred E. Schermerhorn

Fred E. Schermerhorn, 77,  a loving husband, father and grandfather, formerly of Limestone, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 1, 1937 in Carrollton, NY he was a son of the late Charles M. and Harriett (Langworthy) Schermerhorn.

On June 13, 1964 in Limestone he married Twila (Raught) Schermerhorn who survives.

He was a former member of Cyclone Free Methodist Church where he was baptized by Rev. Glenn A. Hamilton on May 22, 1988. He enjoyed building things, working in his garage and just being outdoors.

He formerly worked at Pure Sil, and Hanley Brick, Bovaird & Seyfang, Sena Kean Manor, and Kendall Refining Co. He retired from Bradford Forest Products after many years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Lorie Gault, of Bradford, three sons, Fred E. Schermerhorn, Jr, of Springfield WV, Robert T. Schermerhorn, of Cyclone, and Martin W. Schermerhorn, of Cyclone, one sister, Doris Shonts, of Smethport, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and  five sisters, Betty Hutchinson, Joyce Anthony, Lucille Jackson, Patty Lawton and infant Isabelle and two brothers, Charles Schemerhorn Jr. and Robert E. Schermerhorn.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 33 South Ave., where funeral and committal services will be held at  2:00pm. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
