Shirley R. Thompson

Shirley R. Thompson, 89, of 218 Kansas Branch Road, Duke Center, passed away, Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born March 27, 1925, in Erie she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Lillian (Heirls) Horning.

Ms. Thompson was a 1943 graduate of Strong Vincent High School in Erie. She had worked for Western Union in Erie before moving to California in 1954. While in California she began working at Dow Chemical in Los Angeles and after 35 years of service she retired in 1989. She returned to Duke Center to reside with her sister in 2004.

She was formerly married To George "Tommy" Thompson.

Shirley loved to travel, going to Europe, Africa and all over the United States. She was an avid reader.

Surviving is a sister, Carolyn A. (Kenneth) Kemp, of Duke Center, and five nieces, Janice Timblin, Kelli Christian, Kristine Davis, Karoline James, and Kimberly Gurney. two stepchildren Linda Mutschler and Stanley Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a half sister Emma Smith.

At the request of the family all services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.
