Bettie L. Luther

Bettie L. Luther, 82, of 14 Williams St. Bradford, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 surrounded by her loving family, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born May 20, 1932 in Pleasant Valley MD, she was a daughter of the late Arthur "Shorty" and Naomi (Carbaugh) Cromwell. She was a 1948 graduate of Charles Carrol High School and later graduated from Beauty School in Hanover PA.

On April 26, 1956 at Westminster MD, she married Richard W. Luther Sr. who survives.

In 1959 Bettie and Dick relocated to Bradford and she began teaching at the Continental Beauty School in Bradford she retired in 1972 to raise her children.

She was a member of St. Bernard Church and the Colombian Women. She volunteered at St. Bernard School, Bradford Central Christian High School and the American Cancer Society. Bettie enjoyed her cats, reading, cooking for her family, her greatest joy came from being with her family especially her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband Dick of 58 years are two daughters, Melanie (Tom) Shay, of Bradford, Michele (Bruce) Kesting, of Littlestown, two sons Richard (Kris) Luther Jr., of Bradford and Tim Luther, of Hanover, four grandchildren Tiffanie Luther, Kathleen Shay, Lauren Luther and Will Luther, a sister, Pat Blizzard, one brother, Bill Cromwell, both of Westminster, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Helen Cooney and Rhoda Staup.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday March 24, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., where a prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00pm in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Bernard Church Building Fund or the McKean County SPCA.
