Howard L. Griffin

Howard L. Griffin, 94, of 6200 Limestone Run, Limestone, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born June 26, 1920, in Hinsdale, NY, he was a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Flanigan) Griffin.

On August 23, 1941 in Wellsville, NY, he married Josephine (Aldrich) Griffin, who died, February 9, 2000.

Mr. Griffin had worked for the CCCamps then on February 2, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. He served in Trinidad during World War II, and earned the American Theater Ribbon, 4 Over-Seas Stripes, and 1 Service Strip, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on October 30, 1945. After the service he worked at Dresser Clark and retired as a foundry room foreman, and also drove truck for Charles Bauer.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and gardening.

Surviving are three daughters, Helen Neff, of Buford, GA, Thelma (Bernard) Jackson, and Sally Dowd, all of Limestone, 11 grandchildren, Alvin, Teresa, Shirley, Paul, Julie, Christine, Bernard Jr., Daniel, Timothy, Heather and Adam, 32 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter Shirley Ann, one sister Ruth Lucas and two brothers Warren Griffin and Robert Griffin.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 3 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm in the  Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main St.,

Friends are also invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Limestone, NY.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to Limestone Volunteer Fire Department.
