Andrew Ivancic


Andrew Ivancic, 91, of 113 Spring Drive, Lewis Run, a former longtime resident of Johnstown, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born March 22, 1924, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Andrew and Frances (Gabrenya) Ivancic.

On March 2, 1946, he married Evelyn M. (Probert) Ivancic, who survives.

Mr. Ivancic was a 1942 graduate of Johnstown High School. He entered the Army Air Force on November 18, 1944, and served as a B-17 navigator in the European Theater during WW II. He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945.

He returned home to Johnstown and worked at the General Telephone Company from 1946 to 1976. After his retirement, he and Evelyn resided in Orlando, FL, for more than 25 years. In 2002, they returned to the Johnstown area and later moved to Bradford to be near their sons.

Mr. Ivancic was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by two sons, Drew Ivancic of Bradford and Mark R. (Rebecca) Ivancic of Marshburg; five grandchildren, Ian Ivancic of Phoenix, AZ, Zara (Mark) Shick of Maggie Valley, NC, Brian (Jill) Nelson of Detroit, Katy Nelson of Cincinnati and Colby Nelson of Washington DC; two great-grandchildren, Taryn Shick and Hailey Shick, a sister, Mary Jane Dougherty of Johnstown, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Rudolph Ivancic, and sisters, Frances Gacka and Mildred Jereb.

Family and friends are invited to share memories of Andy at a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boulevard Grill, 165 Southmont Blvd., Johnstown, PA 15905. A private entombment will be in Richland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
