Our family has lost its patriarch. It's with a heavy heart I say goodbye to my father-in-law. A man that has endured so many obstacles in his life, but has always found the strength to overcome and succeed. A man, despite what life threw at him, met his challenges with determination and sheer will. He lived his life not asking why these things happened to him, but somehow was able to use them to benefit others. Lesser men would have given up or became bitter, but not this man. This man had a great love for everything and everyone. I know this may sound like a cliché, but he would literally give you the shirt off his back. This man would take the time to visit with the sick and infirm despite the fact that he was in pain himself. He did this week after week, and year after year. This man loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally. His family meant so much to him and he to them. He showed us how to love one another and what "family" truly means. This family, town, and in fact world is less bright without him. However, his legacy is not diminished but lives on in us and in everyone that knew him. I pledge to strive to be a man like him. Although our family has troubled times ahead, we will follow his example and through our tears and sorrow we too will find the strength to overcome and succeed. God bless you Joe, and please find complete peace and happiness in Heaven.
