Charles H. Godding

Charles H. Godding, 85, an avid Gordon fan, and deer hunter, of Willow Creek, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dog "TC".

Born April 4, 1930, in Bradford he was a son of the late Leon Henry and Ruth Violet (Strait) Godding.

Charlie left school in the 7th grade to go to work to support his family. Chuck worked many jobs most of which were self taught. He worked in the oil fields, black topping and paving for various contractors in town. In 1956 he went to work for the Bradford Sanitation Department, later the Bradford Streets Department and retired after 35 years of service to the City.

On September 26, 1956 he married Leona Mae (Case) Godding who died November 4, 1963, then  four years later he married Sherry Y. (Schollard) Godding who died November 4, 1998.

Charlie was a former member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion and President of the Tuesday Club. He was a lifetime member of the Bradford Twp. Volunteer Fire Department and current member of the Corydon Twp Volunteer Fire Department. He volunteered for the DAV Willow Creek Triathlon.

Surviving are four daughters, Vickie (Tracy) Cromley, of Bradford, Terri (Bill Ruddock) Spittler, of Cookeville TN, Barb (Wayde) Thrush, of Limestone and Mary (Joe) Coder, of Limestone, three sons Tracy (Lisa) Godding, of Bradford; Steve Hale, of Bradford, and Jeff (Michaele Ann) Hale, of Bradford, one sister, Betty Fink, of Bradford, and brother, Don Godding, of Bradford, 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three grandchildren Clinton Spittler, Charlie Sevrey and Hunter Godding, one brother Robert Terry Godding.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday December 17, 2015 from 3-5pm & 7-9pm in the  Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., where funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, with Rev. Max Miller, Pastor, and friend of the family, officiating. Committal services and burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
