Robert E. VanHoutte, a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, 81, of 659 West Washington Street, Bradford, passed away, Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Bradford Manor.
Born July 22, 1935, in Olean, NY, he was a son of the late Amos V. and Helen M. (Siffrinn) VanHoutte.
Mr. VanHoutte was a 1955 graduate of Bradford High School. He had been employed at Dresser Manufacturing for 38 years working in every department. He retired as head of the shipping department. While working at Dresser's he also worked nights at Ray's Sunoco gas station.
On April 28, 1962 in Bradford, he married Lois Jean (Morey) VanHoutte, who survives.
He enjoyed sitting on the porch watching birds, camping, boating and having picnics with the family and neighborhood friends. He loved traveling, out west to California, and points north, his last trip was to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island.
He was a member of St. Bernard Church, and a member of the Quarter Century Club at Dresser.
Surviving in addition to his wife Lois Jean, of 55 years, are three daughters, Diane M. VanHoutte-Wingold, of Pittsburgh, Rebecca J. Gould, of McAdoo, and Julie L. LeTrent, of Grapevine, TX, one sister, June M. (Larry) Brown, of Bradford, sister-in-laws Mary Sue VanHoutte, of Gettsyburg, Joyce VanHoutte, of TN ,and Judy VanHoutte, of Olean, a brother-in-law, Roger (Connie) Morey, of Fayettville, NY, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews with whom he always enjoyed telling stories about growing up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mary Jane Williams, four brothers, Amos, Richard, James and Raymond VanHoutte, one sister-in-law, Mary VanHoutte and one brother-in-law, James Williams.
Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm & 6 to 8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main St. where a prayer service will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Rev. Seth McClymonds, pastor of the First United Methodist Church will be the Lector. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
