David P. Maben, 87, formerly of 12 North Bennett St., Bradford, passed away, Friday, December 14, 2018, at The Pavilion at BRMC.
Born September 1, 1931, in Bradford, he was a son of the late David M. and Katherine (Johnson) Maben. He attended Bradford schools, and held his honorary masters degree from Marblehead College.
He enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1950 and served in Korea until he was honorably discharged in April of 1954.
On September 3, 1955, in Bradford, he married Reba Y. (George) Maben who died August 30, 2004.
He had been employed as bricklayer at Hanley Brick Company, and a knife glazer at Case Cutlery. After the service he began working for the City of Bradford in the Water Department for 34 years as deputy superintendant. He and his wife Reba owned and operated the Mixing Bowl Bakery on Main Street, and had a catering business for over 30 years.
David was a life member, past president and board member of the VFW Post 212, this is where he found his love for playing Santa Claus. He was a former member of the Eagles FOE 2432, Moose Lodge 124, and the Marche Club. He was a bowler for over 25 years, and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and gambling bus trips.
Surviving are two daughters, Becky (the late Roger) Wilson, of Hayden ID, Amy (Mark) Peterson, of Bradford, two sons, John (Debie) Maben, of Little River SC, Dick (Alma) Maben, of McCalla, AL, ten gradchildren, David (Danielle) Wilson, Jason (Mark) Wilson, Andy (Maranda) Maben, Joey (Deanne) Wilson, Chris (Melissa) Maben, Nikki Maben , John-John (Caitlin) Maben, Jake Maben, Jordan Peterson, and Harley Peterson, three great grandchildren, Kayla Wilson and Matthew Wilson and Logan Wilson, two brothers, Leon Maben of Bradford and James (Nancy) Maben of Westerville, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Nancy Maben, Helen Johnson, and Evelyn Roberts, five brothers, Donald, John, Ernest, Robert, and Edwin Maben.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday December 19, 2018 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahil Funeral Homes, Inc., 33 South Ave., where at 5:00pm funeral services will be held with Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating. At 4:45pm members of the VFW post 212 will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home.
Full Military Honors will be accorded on Thursday at 11:00am in Willow Dale Cemetery, by members of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford,
