Margaret Elinor “Peggy” King, 93, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, formerly of 1124 East Main Street, Bradford, passed away on September 20, 2020.
Born May 3, 1927 in Owls Nest, she was the daughter of the late John Clark Covel and Eva Viola Lindsey Covel. She had been a resident of Bradford since 1949 and recently resided at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.
On October 8, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church in Kane, she married William Engel King, who passed away August 7, 2017.
In 1945 she enlisted in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, established in 1943 to alleviate the nursing shortage during World War II. She graduated from the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She was employed at Surgical Associates of Bradford for 34 years.
Peggy was a member of East End United Presbyterian Church. During her membership she was a church elder, Sunday school teacher, helped with the junior choir and youth group, and active with the Women’s Association including their annual apple pie fundraiser.
Peggy enjoyed knitting, playing the piano and organ, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Karolyn Graves of Bradford and Kristine King of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Danielle (Eric) Mallaber of Pittsburgh, Andrew (Tina) Graves of Bloomington, Indiana, and Jennifer Graves of Pittsburgh; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Margaret Mallaber, William Andrew Graves and Kendall Grace Graves.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, and one brother William V. Covel.
The family will be receiving friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday September 24, 2020 at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Home, 372 East Main Street, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Jay Tennies, pastor of Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services and burial will be in McKean Memorial Park Cemetery.
