James T. "Hoppy" Hopkins 77, of 65 Main St. Lewis Run, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at UPMC Hamot, with his daughter at his side.
Born November 1, 1943 in Bradford, he was a son of the late Truman and Mildred Hopkins. He was a 1961 graduate of Limestone High School.
On January 23, 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division out of Ft. Bragg, NC. He served in Korea as a Medic, and was honorably discharged on January 22, 1965.
On August 12, 1967 in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, he married Martha (McDonell) Hopkins who preceded him in death on March 24, 2018.
After the service he returned to Bradford, and worked at the old Owens Illinois box plant before he started painting as Hopkins Painting Service in 1973. A 47 year span. In retirement he was often found painting small projects like all of the fire hydrants for the Bradford Water Authority, a majority of the Lewis Run Boro’s drain covers and anything else that didn’t move.
Jim was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying several big out of state hunting and fishing expeditions.
Surviving are two daughters, Mickey (Robert Tobaygo Jr.) Romania, of Wellsboro, and Kim (Shawn) Sweely, of Canton GA, one son, Eric (Jacki) Hopkins, of Bellefonte, ten grandchildren; Sydney, Taylor & Anthony Romania; Nicole Cappello, Jake, Seth, & Max Sweely; Corinne, Alyssa & Lydia Hopkins and his beloved cat, Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Blake Sweely and siblings Janet Graziano, Kathleen Nolf, Frances Cook and Richard Hopkins.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Saturday May 22, 2021 in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church with Rev. Raymond Gramata, Pastor as Celebrant. Military Honors by the United States Army and members of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford, and burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
