John E. Chartreau, 84, of 38 Lincoln Drive, Lewis Run, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born September 1, 1936 in Bradford, he was a son of the late John M. an Clara (Cicerello) Chartreau.
John attended Bradford schools until the 8th grade and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1957.
On May 1, 1965 in Lewis Run, he married Edith V. (Mackey) Chartreau who survives.
John entered the United States Air Force shortly after graduating. He served 21 years and was honorably discharged in 1978. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Air Force Sergeant Association, the VFW Post 212, American Legion Post 108, and was a Life Member of the Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving in addition to his wife Edith of 55 years are two sons, David J. (Julie) Chartreau, of Limestone, and James M. (Dorothea) Chartreau, of Willow Street PA, two grandchildren, Ethan Chartreau, and Olivia Chartreau, two sisters, Donna Whitford, of Bradford, and Sally McClinsey, of North. Tonawanda NY, one stepbrother, Robert (Sylvia) Hober, of Wellsville NY, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Dorothy Chartreau, and one brother, James Chartreau.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday January 26, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church from 11:00am to Noon, followed by funeral services with Rev. Seth McClymonds, Jr., pastor, officiating. Full Military Honor's by members of the United States Air Force and the Honor Guard from the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford will follow the service in McKean Memorial Park.
