James H. Dittman

James H. Dittman, 83, of 25 Gates Hollow, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born September 1, 1937 in Bradford, he was a son of the late Fred H. and Margaret V. (Waldo) Dittman. He was a 1956 graduate of Bradford High School.

On December 16, 1959 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 24, 1961.

On March 9, 1963, at the West Branch Evangelical Church, he married Marylou (Gifford) Dittman, who died September 2, 2020.

Jim was employed at Kendall Refining Company in the Barrel House, later as a Bulk Haul Driver Bulk Haul Dispatcher and Bulk Haul Garage Supervisor. Prior to his retirement in 1999 he worked as a Crude Oil Purchaser.

Jim was a Distinguished Life Member of the Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department joining in 1975, where he served in many leadership capacities including President from 1977 to 1979, Vice President from 2003 to 2004, Treasurer in 1988 and 1989, Assistant Chief from 1980 to 1982, and a Bingo Crew Leader for more than 25 years. He was a former member of the Board of Directors as well. He was a Life member of the Tri County Volunteer Firefighters Association. He was named Fireman of the Year by the Rotary Club of Bradford in 2003. Jim was also a member of the West Branch United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Surviving is one daughter, Sheila Kay Dittman, of Bradford, one son, Paul (Colleen) Dittman, of Groton, NY, four grandchildren, Taylor (James) Henry, Grace Dittman, Morgan Dittman, Brooke Alcock, one great grandchild, Blakely Henry, one brother, Richard (Kathi) Dittman of Port Charlotte FL, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marylou of 57 years, an infant son, Kevin Dittman, and one brother, Fred Ronald Dittman.

Family will receive friends on Friday May 21, 2021, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 33 South Avenue, where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday with Rev. Matt Blake Pastor of the West Branch United Methodist Church, officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded by members of the United State Army with burial to follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
