James E. Stuart, Sr.

James E. Stuart, Sr, 73, of Bradford, passed away at his residence on May 19, 2021.

Born on March 20, 1948, in Emporium, he was a son of the late Morgan and Zora (Galbreath) Stuart. 

Jim attended Cameron County High School and enlisted into the United States Army on June 17, 1966, and was honorably discharged from active duty on April 7, 1969. He was attached to the 709th Maint BN 9th Inf Div USARPAC, receiving the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Unit Citation Award.

On February 7, 1989, Jim married Paula Hughes in Dania Beach, FL. Even with the ups and downs, she always promised him to stay by his side till the end. 

He worked for Broward General Hospital in Florida, Conrail Railroad for 10 years, and at the First United Methodist Church in Bradford as a custodian for several years until he retired in 2005.

Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 108, the Bradford VFW Post 212, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2432.

He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Nascar. Jim's favorite racer was Dale Earnhardt Sr. and would talk about the time Dale Sr. sat beside him both talking to each other for hours during a race. He also loved getting pictures of his grandkids by text, seeing them do the things they love. There were always two things he had beside him, a glass of Pepsi and his buddy Scotty who always laid beside him.

Jim is survived by his life long companion Paula Stuart, of Bradford, four sons James (Kimberly) Stuart, of Charleston, SC, Jon Hughes, of Bradford, Jason (Tionna) Stuart, of  La Vergne, TN, Robert (MissyJ.) Stuart, of Bradford, two twin daughters Ashley (Robert) Trumpie, of Emporium, and Jennifer (Jeff) Caber, of Coudersport, 14 grandchildren, two brothers Ed (Sandy) Stuart and Richard (Tootsie) Stuart, both of Emporium, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Donald "Duck" Stuart and Morgan Charles Jr., and two sisters Joyce Cohen and Sylvia Stuart.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held in the McKean Memorial Park.
