Betty L. Birk

Betty Louise Birk, 86, formerly of Dearborn, MI, North Ft. Myers, FL, and Bonaire, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born May 8, 1935, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Louise (Maleski) Heid.

On May 23, 1953, in Dearborn, MI, she married Donald G. Birk who preceded her in death on May 26, 2010.

Betty enjoyed all sports; playing, coaching, and refereeing basketball, tennis, and softball. She was artistic and loved to design and make stained glass items.

Surviving are four sons, Alan Birk, of Gowen, MI, Doug (Colleen) Birk, of Livonia, MI, Marty (Debby) Birk, of Gowen, MI, and Glen (James) Birk, of Bradford, and two daughters Janine (Matthew) French, of Traverse City, MI and Laura (Bill) Rector, of Bonaire, GA, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David Birk, granddaughter, Savannah Rector, grandson, Adam Birk, and her brother, Robert Heid.

There will be no public services locally. Committal services and burial will be in Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, MI.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to GWAM (Ghana West Africa Missions), or the charity of the donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

I will miss my Aunt Betty. I have many fond memories of my time spent on the Gladwin farm, and visits with her at the Handford house I loved.
