Wilma Jean Owens, 88, of the Emery Towers, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Bradford Manor.
Born March 24, 1934, in Batavia NY, she was a daughter of the late Winifred A. (Hibbard) Mangel- Cunningham and Harold L. Mangel.
She attended New York State School for the Blind, while in school she played the violin. Later she received her GED, and attended three years of College.
On August 11, 1984, in Gifford, before District Representative Ken Jadalowic, she married Kenneth C. Owens, who died March 2, 2011.
Wilma was employed during her working career as a Home Health Care Aid and House Advisor for Evergreen Elm. She worked as a waitress at W.T. Grant Company, she ran five snack bar shops, and she sold Avon and Tupperware.
She was a former member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Bradford Senior Canter, the American Legion Post 108 Auxiliary, and the WWII Ladies Auxiliary 413 in Bradford.
Wilma was a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader. Her hobbies included swimming, boating, camping, roller skating, traveling, photography, sewing, quilting, hand crafting, listening to Country and Religious music and square dancing.
Surviving are four daughters, Wini Patrick, of Amhurst, NY, Betsy Bellavia, of Orchard Park, NY, Phyllis Richards, and Linda Mathys, both of Bradford, two sons, Phillip Richards, of East Ford CT, and Bernard Richards, of South Bridge MA, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one brother, Ronald Mangel, of Gifford and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by, one sister, Erma Hanson, and one brother, Delbert Mangel,
Family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., at 11:00 am a memorial service will be held with Rev. Terri Niver, Pastor of the First Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions if desired may be made to American Legion Post 108, or a charity of the donor's choice.
