William E. Hurrle, Sr, 85, of 60 Hurrle Drive passed away Wednesday, November 9, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center.
Born November 26, 1936, in Bradford, he was the only son of the late Ernest A. and Gertrude Irene (Burns) Hurrle.
William was a 1954 graduate of Bradford Area High school. Shortly after graduating high school he joined the United States Air Force on August 6, 1954. He served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on February 5, 1958.
On July 26, 1963 in Maryland, he married Rosemarie (Rondelli) Hurrle who survives.
He worked for the FAA from January of 1959 until 1987, later worked in his fathers lock shop for another 10 years. He earned his CDL and drove for Fullington Bus Company and retired again in 2005. Bill was also an independent oil producer.
Bill was a life member of NARFE and served as the Chapter President, District Vice President and 2nd Vice President for Pennsylvania. He was an EMT Instructor and a CPR Instructor. He was a member, Past Commander and Parliamentarian of the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and cabinet making in his shop.
Surviving is his wife Rosemarie of 59 years, four sons Michael (Julie) Hilmes of Lewis Run, Garret Hurrle, of Windsor Lock CT, Darryl (Tina) Hilmes, of Lewis Run, and William Hurrle, of Indiana, 11 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Sunday November 13, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 33 South Avenue, where funeral services will be held Monday, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Zoe Hatcher, of the Open Arms Church, officiating. Burial and military honors by the United States Air Force and members of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108 will be accorded in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the American Legion Post 108 of Bradford, 210 West Washington Street, Bradford, PA 16701, or the Disabled American Veterans, 130 S. Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo NY 14202, or a charity of the donor's choice.
