James R. Swift, 89, of Bradford, formerly of Lewis Run, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at his residence.

Born on August 21, 1933, in Rixford, he was a son of the late James and Marie (Kellogg) Swift.

He attended school in Colville. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1954, and served until his honorable discharge on January 5, 1956.

On March 21, 1955, in Bradford, he married Eloise (Melinche) Swift. They were married 55 years before her death on August 10, 2010.

Jim worked for the Valley Hunt Club, Airco Spear, and retired from Trico.

He enjoyed collecting cars and going to car shows, hunting, gardening and working in his yard.

Surviving are his companion of five years, Patty Ann Vleminckx, of Bradford, two nieces, Barb Bussey, of Severn MD, and Debbie Chilson, of Bradford. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Mildred Hurd, and Thelma Soulss, and one brother, Don Swift.

Private funeral services will be held for the family in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., with Fr. Jim Gutting, of St. Bernard Church, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery where military honors will be accorded with the United States Army and the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108.
