Martha Marty Palumbo

Martha Cady Palumbo, 75, of 30 Parkview Ave in Bradford, passed July 25, 2023, after a two-year extended illness.

Born Martha “Marty” Cady, on July 12, 1948, in Jamestown, NY, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Jeanette (Wiggers) Cady. She grew up in North Clymer NY but lived most of her adult life in McKean County, many of those years in Bradford and Eldred.

Marty graduated from Clymer Central School, in 1967, where she was a cheerleader and was the Betty Crocker Award Winner during her senior year. She attended Jamestown Business College, Jamestown Community College, SUNY Geneseo, and graduate school at Clarion State College.  She was an accomplished Speech Therapist for 35 years at the Seneca Intermediate Unit 9 and worked mostly in the Otto-Eldred and Oswayo Valley School Districts.

Marty had many pastimes including being a former Girl Scout leader. After retirement she was a volunteer at the Bradford Hospital, and as an exercise instructor for seniors at the Bradford YMCA, where she made many wonderful friends. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, and knitting. In addition, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Educators. Along with her husband she maintained beautiful hillside flower gardens at their home in Bradford.

Marty attended church at St Francis of Assisi, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Marty loved to travel. Besides visits to see her daughter and grandchildren in Georgia, she also enjoyed numerous trips to Canada, Italy, Yellowstone Park and the Eastern Seaboard.

On November 26, 1977, she married Peter Palumbo during a snowstorm in North Clymer, NY. They survived the 20-inch snowstorm, and they were rewarded by almost 46 years of marriage.

Surviving is her husband Peter, one son, Anthony (Harley) Palumbo and her very precious granddaughter, Sylvia all of Bradford, one daughter Kristen (Craig) Tripp and wonderful grandchildren, Amelia and Jeremy, of Savannah, GA, two sisters, Judith (Daryl) Odell of Columbus, and her nephews, Tom Odell, Ryan Odell and niece Dr. Barbara Mincarelli. Her sister Mary Lou Parlato (Richard) of Sarasota FL, and Chautauqua, NY. Her sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Palumbo Churakos, of Olean NY, and many cousins, mostly in the Clymer, NY area, and longtime friends, Patty and Larry Visbisky and Barb and Bill Black, all of Bradford.

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 4, 2023, from Noon to 1:00 pm at St. Francis Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm with Fr. Jim Gutting, as celebrant. Committal services will be held at 4:15pm Friday in St. Callistus Cemetery in Kane.

Marty was a joy to work with at OV Elementary. She was such a caring, compassionate teacher. We always had fun just talking about our work at OV. I enjoyed visiting with her at the Knights of Columbus steak dinner in Eldred. I think the last time we visited with Pete and Marty was at a basketball game at St. Bonas. She was a true professional lady and I am very honored to have been able to work with her and share our daily "woes"! So sorry for her loss but know she is that"special" angel needed in heaven now. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. ?I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was.?I am I, and you are you,?and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.? Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name.? Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.? Put no difference into your tone.? Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.? Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.? Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.? Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant.? I am but waiting for you, for an interval,?somewhere very near,?just round the corner. All is well We shall meet again. All is well, my love. Know our love surrounds you, dear friend. Love Ron & Deb
