Thomas R. Bromeley, 92, of Derrick City, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his residence.

Born December 28, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Marian (Grow) Bromeley.

Mr. Bromeley was a 1948 graduate of Bradford Area Senior High School. He earned a BS with Honors in Physics and Mathematics from Otterbein College and a MS in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. In 1988, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science in Business Administration from Otterbein College.

On June 23, 1951, in Canton OH, he married Jean (Hostetler) Bromeley, who passed away May 29, 2019.

From 1953 to 1956, he served as a Supply Officer on a U.S. Navy Atlantic Mine Force repair and supply ship.

Mr. Bromeley was a business leader and philanthropist. He was a past director of Integra Banks, which later became National City Corporation. In addition to being the chairman of Allegheny Bradford Corporation, he was a lifelong investor, involved in newspaper publishing and radio broadcasting, including the Bradford Era and WESB, and numerous local businesses. 

Mr. Bromeley was also a civic leader. He was president of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce, campaign chairman of the United Way of the Bradford Area, vice chairman of Bradford Hospital, now the Bradford Regional Medical Center. He was president of the Bradford Nursing Pavilion, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Chautauqua Institution and of Otterbein College and director of the Chautauqua Foundation. Bromeley was also on the executive committee of the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Advisory Board, director of the Bradford Hospital Foundation, chairman of the Board of Directors for the Bradford Educational Foundation and chairman of the investment committee of the Church of the Ascension. In 2010, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Distinction from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Surviving are two daughters, Pam (Donald) Fredeen, and Amy (Dan) McCune, all of Derrick City; five grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Fredeen, Jared (Jessi) Fredeen, Sara (Jose) Rubio, Rachel McCune, and Emma (Matt) Zaccardo; five great grandchildren, Max Fredeen, Will Fredeen, Rudy Fredeen, Ignacio Rubio and Oscar Rubio; one niece, Deborah (Scott) Cavagnaro, and one nephew, Robert (Sharon) Daggett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Catherine B. (George H.) Daggett.

Friends are invited to attend a Rite of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday November 3, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Church of Ascension with Rev. Stacy Fussell, Rector, officiating.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
