Rhoda R. Silverberg

Rhoda Ruth Silverberg, 93, formerly of 22 Walker Avenue, Bradford of Centennial, CO, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 18, 2023, in her residence at the Morningstar Jordan, surrounded by her four children.

Born January 30, 1930, in Corona Queens, she was a daughter of Meyer and Sophie (Miller) Gruskin.

She graduated with honors from Bradford Area High School Class of 1947 and remained active in the alumni association for more than sixty years.

On August 13, 1949, in Buffalo NY, she married Morris “Moe” Silverberg who preceded her in death on September 4,1991.

Rhoda and her loving husband, Moe were well-known in town as the owners of Silverberg Meats grocery store on Summer Street. After the store closed, Rhoda served as National Advertising Manager of the Bradford Era. She later worked as a secretary to the law office of Joseph Graff.

Rhoda and Moe were the center of attention on any dance floor, a formidable bowling team and avid bridge players.  In their retirement, they traveled around the country in their motorhome, displaying and selling beautiful handmade woodcrafts at crafts shows.

After Moe's premature death, Rhoda traveled the world with friends and family. A longtime member of Zonta International, Rhoda traveled to Hong Kong and China in 1993, representing the Bradford chapter at their world conference. Rhoda was deeply committed to her Jewish heritage and her Jewish community, remaining active at Temple Beth El for all her decades in Bradford. Rhoda relocated to the Denver, Colorado area in 2014.

Surviving are Rhoda's children, her pride and joy, Rena McClain, of Veguita, NM, Sanford "Sandy" Silverberg, of New York City, NY, Susan (Barry) Lewen, of Stamford, CT, and Benita (Craig) Samuels of Parker, CO, eight grandchildren and 4.5 great grandchildren, two brothers, Irwin Gruskin (Karen) of Great Neck, NY and Fred Gruskin (Joanne) of Keystone, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Rhoda was predeceased by her parents, husband Moe, and her sister, Rita Berg.

Family will receive friends on Thursday December 21, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Temple Beth El, 144 Clarence Street, in Bradford, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am with Kimberly Weinberg officiating. Burial will follow at Bradford Hebrew Cemetery.

I bowled with your mother years ago. She was such a lovely lady. I enjoyed our conversations. She was so proud of her family. I enjoyed learning about the jewish religion. Especially, the candy She brought us at Hanukkah.

Dear Family of Rhoda, I remember Rhoda with great affection. I was lucky enough to know her at Beth El. Her grandfather Gruskin was the rabbi of tiny Beth Jacob in Kane, with which my family was connected. May her memory be a blessing.
