Ted Jay

Ted Jay, 89, of 8 Limestone Street, Bradford, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Olean General Hospital.

Born on August 6, 1934, in Clearfield, he was a son of the late Melvin Jay and Lillian (Wilton) Rossi. He was a graduate of Bradford High School.

On August 19, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1957. 

On May 2, 1959, at the St. Callistus Church in Kane, he married Blanche M. (McMahon) Jay who preceded him in death on March 7, 2016.

After the military, Ted worked as a painter, bartender, and in 1958, he started working at Kendall-Witco Refining Company, working as a heavy equipment operator, before retiring with 39 years of service. 

Ted formerly coached football, baseball. He started the YMCA swim team and served as their coach. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, and a Jaycees. He was also a member of VFW Post #212, American Legion Post #108, and the YMCA. Ted enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, hunting, fishing, golfing, corn hole, and playing euchre. 

Ted is survived by two daughters, Lori (John) Jamison, of Bradford, Tina (Brian) Dunkle, of Derrick City, three sons Edward Jay, of Bradford, Richard (Kathy) Jay, of Smithfield, VA, Douglas (Lisa) Jay, of Yorktown, VA, 13 grandchildren, Halie Leonard, Emily Benitez, Kevin Bartlett, Jodi Bugansky, Andrew Jamison, Alaina Sexton, Adam Jamison, Megan Jay, Richard Jay, Morgan Dunkle, Devon Dunkle, Nicole Jay, Kelsey Jay, 16 great grandchildren, Lillian Leonard, Madalyn Leonard, Evelyn Leonard, Joey Leonard, Kendall Benitez, Theodore Benitez, Gunner Bugansky, Henry Bugansky, Lincoln Bugansky, Danielle Jamison, Charlie Jamison, Declan Sexton, Leah Sexton, Judah Sexton, Benjamin Jamison, Maverick Dunkle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blanche of 57 years, and one infant son, Joey Jay.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main Street, from 10 AM to 12 PM, with funeral services starting at 12 PM, Rev. Jim Lenaway, Pastor of B-Free Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
