George J. Matto

George J. "Butch" Matto, 87, of 309 Langmaid Lane, Bradford, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Bradford Regional Medical Center. 

Born December 14, 1937, in Bradford, he was the son of the late Mary S. (Steward) Matto Dreier and George M. Matto. He was a 1956 graduate of Bradford High School.

On July 6, 1961, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was awarded the expert rifle and good conduct medals and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1963.

On February 11, 1961, in St. Bernard Church, he married Barbara A. (Kane) Matto who preceded him in death on December 14, 2021.

Butch was employed at CC Mix Construction from 1956 to 1961, then joined Penelec for more than 40 years, retiring in 2004. 

He was a member of St. Bernard Church, American Legion, Willow Creek Sportsman Club, Eagles Club, Italian Club

Butch was a hard working man all his life. He enjoyed cutting and stacking wood, and building things and most especially the two homes he built for his family. He was an avid Steeler's fan. Butch was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time and entertaining friends at his camp at 43 Stickney Lane in Willow Creek. 

Surviving are two daughters, Kelli (Brian) Frutiger, Julie Prentiss, all of Bradford, one granddaughter, Courtney Prentiss, and several nieces and nephews.
 
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barb of 60 years, and one sister, Darla Jean Tasker.

Family will receive friends on Thursday February 20, 2025, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., at 5 pm funeral services will be held with Fr. Jim Gutting, of St. Bernard Church. officiating.

Remember "Butch" from growing up and delivering papers. Back in the day when people were trustworthy Butch would leave the side door open for me to leave the paper on his table. Got a 25 cents per week tip when papers were 70 cents a week. RIP Butch.
